About Us

Voices Antigonish includes a variety of residents, health organizations and farmer groups in the town and county who believe access to quality food in the downtown core is vital to a healthy lifestyle and contributes to the soul of the community.

Voices Mission Statement:

To have fresh, nutritious, locally produced food available and accessible in the Antigonish area.  Through this mission we also hope to support local food producers, and contribute to the sustainability and vitality of our communities.

In addition, Voices hopes to contribute to:

  •
    • establishing a communal public market space in the town core
    • contributing to the sustainability of our communities
    • supporting the Antigoinsh Farmer`s Market
    • providing education regarding the important of fresh, local produce and food products
    • Advocacy!

Every day, more and more consumers are shopping smarter, eating healthier, and enjoying an abundance of fresh, locally grown products.

Voices Antigonish is developing a strong coalition of local groups to celebrate this fast-growing, dynamic movement, to educate consumers on food-related issues, and to help build community through food," says Christine Johnson, co-chair of Voices Antigonish. “One of the most forward thinking food issues is the concept of “Sustainable Food,” she said.

Fellow Voices Co-chair, Colleen Cameron adds,  “Sustainable food is a relatively new term used to describe food production methods that are healthy, do not harm the environment, respect workers, are humane to animals, provide fair wages to farmers, and support farming communities.”
