Our Story!

VOICES ANTIGONISH began in 2004 after the closing of the last downtown grocery store in Antigonish. At that time Voices engaged in tremendous advocacy efforts in presenting the need that exists for a downtown food outlet amongst a variety of stakeholder groups. Activities included presentations to town and county council, the community health board, etc. Since that time Voices has been working in a strategic fashion to build momentum, get input and identify the needs that exist in our communities.

Since 2007, Voices has witnessed an explosion of public discussion and media coverage of a baffling array of topics and the terminology that comes along with it such as sustainability*, environmental risk*, and food security*.  As a result we decided to start to bring people together to hear their stories and gather their input because solutions are broad and will not be straight forward. This lead us to host our First Annual Public Forum in 2007!
Check out each year's progression below!
