Welcome to Voices Antigonish!

Voices Antigonish is a volunteer community group working to bring about local, healthy, and sustainable food options for residents, particularly in the downtown core, of Antigonish. We offer  two main programs to the residents of Antigonish: Community Gardens & a Local Food Box program.

Voices Antigonish Community Gardens: we organize several community gardens across Antigonish town which are cared for by residents who have a passion to learn how to grow their own food. We supply the seeds, tools, and resources while the gardeners provide the appropriate care and necessary time to grow their choice of vegetables, fruits, and herbs.

For more information please click our Community Gardens tab.

Local Food Box Program: a program which links residents with local producers. We organize boxes full of delicious, local foods to be delivered every two weeks to convenient locations around Antigonish Town. There is no seasons commitment, so residents can order boxes as often or as little as they like.

For more information please click our Local Food Box tab.

June 30, 2010 - All of the Voices community gardens have been planted and many are full of young, healthy seedlings. A few of our gardeners have even enjoyed some nice, crisp lettuce and spinach greens already. A root crop garden (potatoes, onions, carrots, & radishes) has also been planted behind the Braemore Coop.

June 25, 2010 - The local elementary school's grade four class planted a schoolyard garden this week in raised beds provided by Voices Antigonish. This project was inspired by the Edible Schoolyard project introduced at the Voices public forum in February. The incoming grade four class will harvest the gardens in the fall and will learn how to prepare easy meals and snacks using the food they pick.

February 2010 - Our public forum was a success again this year and many great ideas came forth from the discussions. A special thanks to guest speaker Chef Michael Howell from The Tempest Restaurant in Wolfville for presenting the Edible Schoolyard project to attendees.
