ZERO - Carbon Reducing & Off-Setting Human induced climate change affects all people on a social, economic and environmental level. The answer is for people to take responsibility by taking action. Zero is a carbon off-setting project managed by the not-for-profit organization Antigonish Sustainable Development. It is aimed at providing Nova Scotian's with the tools to reduce or offset their carbon emission. Our consumer society brings us unprecedented, comfort, convenience and choice. However, the complexity of our economy does not always help us to connect with the natural systems on which we depend. The simple truth is that if everyone in the world consumed at the average rate we do in Nova Scotia, we would need four planets. We need to move from four-planet living to one-planet living, at home, at work or travelling - and we’re running out of time to make changes needed to meet that challenge with out running into some pretty serious consequences.
There is now full consensus with the international scientific community with regards to climate change and the role humans are playing in warming up the planet. Scientists have given us just ten to fifteen years to take the collective action necessary to prevent catastrophic climate change. The key to achieving one-planet living lies in making sustainable habits and choices easier for us to take up. The challenge now is to create a supportive framework for collective progress - encapsulated in the notion ‘I will if you will’. We need to feel confident that we are acting in step with others - neighbours and colleagues, friends and family - not alone and against the grain. There is space for change
Growing numbers of individuals, families and businesses are ready and willing to embrace the challenge of one-planet living, if the right processes, systems and/or policies are in place to help. Most of us now understand the logic of doing the right thing by the environment, for our own health and well-being, and that of our children and grandchildren. Sustainability research showed that many people recognize the need to balance material possessions with the fundamentals of having time and energy to invest in good relationships and healthy living. Where to start?
This site is dedicated to decreasing the impact individuals, families, businesses and organizations are having on the climate of the planet by the excess use of carbon. We simply need to reduce the amount of carbon we produce and there are two core places we can star: 2. Carbon Off-Setting - Through the project: "Zero - Carbon Off-Setting" Automobile Flights
